My name is Brice Steiner and I am the professional taxidermist, artist and owner behind the Fur House Taxidermy LLC in Reunion, Colorado. My taxidermy studio has been built into my home allowing me to pass down the savings to you and provide the ultimate flexibility in being available for specimen drop-offs and expediting the completion of your trophy mount.
I completed my taxidermy certifications at the Rinehart School of Taxidermy in Wisconsin where I specialized in mammal, bird, fish, and big game shoulder mounts. I take pride in applying my training and skills to help recreate and preserve the hunting and fishing memories of Coloradan hunters and all visiting hunters from around the country.
My passion for the outdoors and wildlife started at a young age while growing up in a small town in southwest Wisconsin. I was raised in a tight-knit family that worked together and was built around a fur trading business that my Grandpa, Laverne “Lefty” Steiner, owned; the Alaskan-Canadian Fur Trading company. Everyone fondly referred to his shop as the fur house. It was established in 1927, serviced 700+ trappers and hunters and is documented* in history for being one of the oldest and last existing fur trading companies.
My childhood was carved around the daily operations of the fur house where I learned the fur trade firsthand assisting my Grandpa while he would take in hides from hunters spanning the Midwest. He accepted hides from a wide range of species that included deer, buffalo, elk, bear, beaver, muskrat, coyotes, moose, raccoon and even squirrel tails. After accessing the value of each hide, we would get to work scraping, stretching and tanning.
These seemingly routine moments at the fur house allowed me to build a wealth of knowledge around all the species that I would eventually come to pursue hunting and would instill a lifelong passion that is deep-rooted and that I will cherish forever.
There is no doubt that my Grandpa’s success over the decades was attributed to his desire for fair pricing, his expertise in the trade and his determination for the quality in his workmanship and these are the very principles that I strive for as I continue his legacy.
At the end of the day, I am most grateful that I get to do what I love for a living – working with fellow hunters, sharing stories of their outdoor adventures and helping to preserve the memory of their hunt, year after year, and for a lifetime.
